About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dental Assistant to join their team of medical professionals in the Arizona Department of Corrections - Perryville in Goodyear, AZ. This role involves working alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals. The environment is controlled, with security as a top priority, and offers a variety of engaging duties. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a diverse patient population with complex medical and dental needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply as training in correctional healthcare will be provided.

Requirements

Completion of a one or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
Radiology Certification from the AZ State Board of Dental Examiners or from DANB
Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening
Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.

Responsibilities

Preparing patients for dental procedures
Assisting patients with treatments
Maintaining patient dental records while protecting the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population
Coordinating dental services and assisting Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation and supporting the function of the dental department
Assisting Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction
Ensuring all dental equipment properly maintained and in good working order and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked
Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
Assisting in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
Taking and developing x-rays, assisting with dental laboratory function
