About The Position

We are seeking a Dental Assistant to support the Veteran community in the Orlando, FL area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals. The role involves providing chairside assistance, maintaining infection control, preparing materials, taking impressions, and educating patients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude, and assist with patient scheduling and record charting while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
Successful completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
1 year of experience as a dental assistant.
A Dental Radiological Certificate is mandatory.
Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination Administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.
Successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinations developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry.
Successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Show courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude for patients, co-workers, and the public.
Assist customers with questions or concerns and provide service recovery.
Provide chairside assistance with setup and operating equipment for planned dental procedures and clean the dental unit for timely turnover.
Passes instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Keeps operative field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably.
Prepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions.
Ensures images are of diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed, utilizing dental imaging safety techniques and minimizing retakes.
Accomplishes imaging requests within the desired time frame.
Demonstrates proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning up operatories.
Ensures instruments are properly prepared for sterilization by SPS standards.
Demonstrates proper infection control procedures in exposing images.
Assists patients in scheduling appointments.
Assists in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments.
Assists dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient record.
Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information.
Participates in patient identification and time-out per Joint Commission requirements.
Takes impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabrication.
Removes temporary crown/bridge and cleans tooth preparation of debris.
Re-cements and fabricates temporary crowns.
Provides post-operative and other appropriate patient education.
