Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Completed a dental assisting training program.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a dental assistant.
  • Trained in four-handed dentistry.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes; OSHA regulations; and the Arkansas Dental Practice Act.
  • One year minimum experience as a registered dental assistant required if trained at CODA-accredited entity; Five years minimum experience if trained or made license eligible through a non-CODA accredited entity.
  • Currently licensed/certified in the State of Arkansas as a registered dental assistant.
  • Possess permit for radiography.
  • Possess permit for coronal polishing.
  • Possess permit for nitrous oxide administration.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and assist dentists, dental students, dental hygienists, and residents in the delivery of dental procedures in Oral Health Clinic and UAMS operating rooms.
  • Guide patients through dental processes prior to treatment, educate patients in oral hygiene instruction, and provide postoperative instructions.
  • Perform assessments that include obtaining and reviewing patient health histories and taking/recording blood pressure and other vital signs.
  • Perform appropriate dental charting and treatment documentation in the electronic record.
  • Expose and process dental radiographs of diagnostic quality.
  • Administer nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia and monitor sedation cases.
  • Perform coronal polishing.
  • Take alginate impressions, pour, and trim models.
  • Fabricate night guards, bleaching trays, splints, custom trays, and temporary crowns.
  • Prepare lab prescription forms, ship and receive lab cases, and maintain record of lab orders.
  • Perform in-office whitening.
  • Perform daily and routine maintenance of dental equipment as assigned.
  • Clean and sterilize dental instruments, supplies, and dental assist units and maintain organization and supply of sterilization area.
  • Establish and maintain an organized, efficient, cost-effective inventory control system, continually monitoring supply levels and re-ordering by working with assigned purchaser.
  • Maintain stock of daily supplies in all clinic rooms.
  • Review daily schedules and resolve conflicts as necessary.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties (answer telephones, make appointments, explain and receive payment for procedures, and other duties as assigned).
  • Assist with front desk/business administration duties as assigned.
