About The Position

Aptive Resources is hiring a Dental Assistant to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at Naval Health Clinic Hawaii (NHCH) Camp Smith. This is a full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 0630-1600. Contract HCWs will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays. The role involves performing a full range of dental assisting procedures in support of Dental Officer examinations and treatment delivery under the "four handed dentistry" format. The HCW will aid in mandated dental surveillance and preventive services, assist in ensuring the quality and timeliness of treatment records, and refer patients to staff dentists. Responsibilities include maintaining patient records, assisting during anesthesia and suture placement/removal, disposing of contaminated waste, and maintaining operatory cleanliness according to clinic standards. While primarily a clinical services contract, the HCW may be assigned other duties as time permits, such as working at the appointments desk, performing Central Sterile Supply functions, and participating in quality improvement meetings. The HCW is expected to contribute positively to team building and morale. Expanded Functions training and certification may be offered at the Commanding Officer's discretion.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Certificate or associate degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Graduation from a state accredited program for dental assistants or dental technology within the preceding 12 months.
  • All training must have included a course in radiation physics; radiation biology; radiation health, safety, and protection; X-ray films and radiographic film quality; radiographic techniques; darkroom and processing techniques; film mounting; and digital radiographic processing techniques.
  • 36 months experience within the preceding 60 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or a military clinic.
  • Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months experience within the preceding 36 months.
  • Certified in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 75.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Capable of performing duties requiring somewhat regular and reoccurring back bending, with short periods of standing and walking.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a full range of dental assisting procedures in support of Dental Officer examinations and delivery of treatment under the "four handed dentistry" format.
  • Aiding in the provision of mandated dental surveillance and preventive services.
  • Assisting in ensuring the quality and timeliness of treatment records and reports.
  • Referring patients who present with a complaint to staff dentists for evaluation and continuation of care.
  • Attending multidisciplinary treatment team meetings on behalf of the dental officers.
  • Maintaining patient records in accordance with Joint Commission and DTF/MTF requirements.
  • Assisting during administration of anesthesia.
  • Assisting in placement and removal of sutures.
  • Disposing of contaminated waste in accordance with the standard procedures of the DTF/MTF.
  • Maintaining operatory to meet the clinic's cleanliness and infection control standards.
  • Working at the appointments desk (as time permits).
  • Performing Central Sterile Supply functions (as time permits).
  • Participating in command quality improvement and assurance meetings (as time permits).
  • Contributing in a positive manner to team building and morale.
  • Participating in Expanded Functions training program and certification (at Commanding Officer's discretion).
