About The Position

The primary purpose of the Dental Assistant position is to provide direct patient care, performs simple (nursing dental) procedures, performs in a technical capacity providing support to the professional staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients, and contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit under the direction and supervision of a Staff Nurse. Provides chair side assistance to doctors performing all dental procedures under local. Exercises competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to all ages of patients served from neonatal to the end of life.

Requirements

  • High school or equivalent certification program required.
  • Ability to read, write speak, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
  • Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures, and other simple procedures where indicated.
  • Certification in CPR.
  • Must be registered with the Board of Dentistry to Practice in New Jersey as a Registered Dental Assistant.
  • Must possess a valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia Assistant preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of excellence in health care to fulfill the mission of the unit.
  • Exhibits strong customer service skills in daily interaction with the public, patients, staff, and physicians in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs, monitors and records basic physiological parameters, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, (oral) intake and output.
  • Participates in planning and evaluation of patient care by communication all information pertinent to the patient’s status.
  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with individualized patients needs and dental plan of care.
  • Ensures that two (2) patient identifies (name and DOB) are used at all times prior to seating patient with chart in exam room.
  • Takes, develops, and labels all dental x-rays as ordered by Provider.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of all Oral Maxillofacial/Dental procedures.
