About The Position

This position assists the Dentist in providing comprehensive dental services to patients. The role involves chairside assistance in all phases of dentistry, maintaining the dental clinic, managing patient flow, and performing various dental laboratory procedures. The Dental Assistant will also be responsible for patient education on oral hygiene and preventive measures, and must be able to recognize and respond to basic medical and dental emergencies, following all safety precautions.

Requirements

  • CPR certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Dental assisting permit for the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of hands-on experience working as a Dental Assistant (less experience may be considered with approval).
  • Knowledge of instruments normally used in routine dental procedures.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of dental anatomy and ability to properly expose and process diagnostic radiographs.
  • Ability to explain postoperative instructions to patients.
  • Ability to remain calm in a stressful situation.
  • Ability to work well with the public.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to fit in well with a team environment and be a true team player.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and find ways to stay productive when not seeing patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Courses above the High School level in the Dental field are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs chairside assistance in all phases of dentistry, including routine dental procedures, intraoral surgical procedures, extractions, periodontics, endodontics, and implants.
  • Maintains the field of operation during dental procedures using retraction, suction, irrigation, and drying techniques.
  • Maintains the dental clinic in a clean and orderly manner, including documenting scheduled maintenance.
  • Monitors and maintains the emergency kit and nitrous oxide/oxygen supply.
  • Receives and routes patients and schedules appointments.
  • Charts and records treatment notes in the Electronic Dental Record program (Dentrix).
  • Cleans, sharpens, packages, and sterilizes all dental instruments for proper storage.
  • Prepares patients and operatory for procedures, including proper instrument set-ups.
  • Operates dental x-ray equipment to take intra- and extra-oral radiographs, ensuring high-quality images.
  • Performs routine dental laboratory procedures, including pouring and trimming models, constructing custom impression trays, and fabricating base plates and bite rims.
  • Ensures lab cases are sent to the lab correctly and on time.
  • Relays post-treatment instructions to patients and motivates/instructs patients in proper oral hygiene and preventive health measures.
  • Takes, records, and monitors vital signs.
  • Applies pit and fissure sealants and topical fluoride.
  • Completes child cleanings and coronal polishing.
  • Provides periodontal therapy, prophylaxis, and fluoride treatments as directed by the dentist.
  • Places rubber dams for isolation as directed by the dentist.
  • Places retraction cord, fabricates, and removes temporary crowns.
  • Recognizes and responds to basic medical and dental emergencies.
  • Follows Blood Borne Pathogen safety precautions and demonstrates understanding of CDC and prevention guidelines.
