About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dental Assistant to join their team of medical professionals in the G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore, AL. This role involves working alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals. Working within a controlled environment where security is top priority, the position offers a variety of engaging duties. It is a unique opportunity to make a difference to a diverse patient population with complex medical and dental needs. Requirements

  • Completion of a one or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
  • Maintain the proper training and unrestricted certification as a Dental Assistant
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Be able to obtain CPR certification
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating dental services and assisting Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation and supporting the function of the dental department
  • Assisting Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction
  • Ensuring all dental equipment properly maintained and in good working order and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked
  • Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
  • Assisting in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
  • Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
  • Taking and developing x-rays, assisting with dental laboratory function
