About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dental Assistant to join their team of medical professionals in the Bullock Correctional Facility in Union Springs, Alabama. As a Correctional Dental Assistant, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to incarcerated individuals. This unique position offers a variety of duties within a controlled environment where security is top priority, allowing you to make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex medical and dental needs. Requirements

  • Completion of a one or two-year dental assistant program at a vocational school or community college
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
  • Radiology Certification from the AZ State Board of Dental Examiners or from DANB
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

  • Preparing patients for dental procedures
  • Assisting patients with treatments
  • Maintaining patient dental records while protecting the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population
  • Coordinating dental services and assisting Dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation and supporting the function of the dental department
  • Assisting Dentist during treatment by providing instruments, materials, retraction or suction
  • Ensuring all dental equipment properly maintained and in good working order and the dental suite is clean and well-stocked
  • Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
  • Assisting in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
  • Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
  • Taking and developing x-rays, assisting with dental laboratory function
