About The Position

The Dental Assistant TL with Expanded Function is a full-time position at the South Family Health Center in Berwyn, IL. This role involves performing standard dental assistant duties, leading and coaching other dental assistants, and managing patient flow and daily assignments. Key responsibilities include ordering dental supplies, conducting Quality Assurance reviews for compliance with clinical measures, OSHA, Joint Commission, and HIPAA, and ensuring patient comfort and understanding of treatment. The assistant is also responsible for taking and developing diagnostic quality dental radiographs, performing basic dental equipment maintenance, instrument and operatory sterilization, and stocking operatories. Additionally, the role involves proper use and mixing of restorative and impression materials, pouring and trimming models, and performing quality control checks on equipment. The Team Lead is expected to maintain a positive work environment, ensure adherence to PCC policies and safety practices, provide coaching to staff, delegate workloads, and assist in improving patient intake and satisfaction. The position also includes monitoring customer service, assisting in interviewing and hiring, promoting teamwork, troubleshooting clinical support areas, and potentially performing front desk duties such as answering calls, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, assisting with paperwork, dental billing, insurance coordination, and triaging emergency patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Constantly communicates with patients, families, and other healthcare providers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Certification of Completion for Coronal Polishing and Application of Pit and Fissure Sealants
  • Dental Assistant Diploma
  • Current and valid CPR card
  • Ability to read and write proficiently using the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years dental assisting and team lead experience preferred.
  • 3+ years EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties of a dental assistant as needed.
  • Builds a positive work environment.
  • Helps direct patient flow and daily assignments and tasks to other dental assistants.
  • Ordering of supplies for the dental department under supervision of the Dental Director and/or Dental Clinic Administrator.
  • Provides Quality Assurance reviews pertaining to accuracy in documentation, compliance with clinical measures, OSHA, Joint Commission, HIPAA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for patient's comfort as well as patients understanding of treatment that will be delivered.
  • Responsible for taking and developing diagnostic quality dental radiographs.
  • Responsible for determining if the quality of the radiographs is within acceptable limits.
  • Responsible for basic dental equipment maintenance as well as having an understanding of and ability to perform instrument and operatory sterilization.
  • Responsible for keeping operatories stocked with dental materials and supplies.
  • Responsible for the proper use and mixing of restorative materials, impression materials, bases, liners, and other dental materials.
  • Responsible for the proper pouring up of impressions and trimming of models.
  • Performs and records quality control checks on specific dental equipment following established protocol as directed.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Ensures the observance of PCC policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Increases employee motivation, retention, and engagement by providing ongoing coaching to staff and delegates workloads during downtime to ensure staff are always engaged and productive.
  • Aids in the implementation of systems that improves patient intake, flow and patient satisfaction and provides feedback to managers, ensures the efficient processing of patients and smooth patient flow.
  • Monitors internal and external customer service and ensures quality customer service to all and follows PCC customer service guidelines and protocols.
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring of prospective candidates.
  • Promotes teamwork within and outside of clinical area (i.e., establishes good relations between clinical and clerical areas).
  • Functions as troubleshooter regarding the daily clinical support areas when necessary.
  • Responsible for front desk/appointing duties when designated by the Dental Director and/or Dental Clinic Administrator. These duties include but are not limited to: Answering telephone calls, transferring calls to the appropriate person, Taking and answering phone messages, Scheduling appointments for patients, Checking patients in, Assisting in patient paperwork, Assist with dental billing and insurance coordination, Triaging emergency patients.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Dental Director and/or Dental Clinic Administrator.
