About The Position

This role involves assisting the dentist with clinical work, supervising dental assistants across all sites, and acting as a liaison between patients, materials management, and quality control. The position requires a blend of clinical and administrative responsibilities, with a focus on operational oversight, staff management, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed dental assistant in MA
  • Minimum of (2) years experience as a dental assistant
  • Radiology certification or course according to MA requirements
  • Must meet the Dental Assistant Competency Checklist with a minimum score of 3.5

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Clinical assisting
  • Taking diagnostic radiographs
  • Escorting patients to and from the waiting area
  • Verifying patient's medications, allergies, and health history and notifying the dentist of any significant findings
  • Ensuring patients complete preprocedural mouth rinse when indicated
  • Verifying lab cases, implant components, and required instruments are available prior to treatment
  • Packing, receiving, and managing lab cases
  • Preparing operatories for daily patient care and the following day's schedule
  • Performing operatory cleaning and turnover between patients
  • Performing dental unit waterline flushing and maintenance as required
  • Biweekly/ monthly visits to all sites to oversee operations
  • Supervising proper cleaning, sterilization, storage, and maintenance of dental instruments
  • Overseeing maintenance and monitoring of sterilizers, and other clinical equipment and maintaining proper records
  • Coordinating equipment maintenance and vendor service requests
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA, CDC, state regulations, and infection control standards
  • Ordering, inventorying, and maintaining dental supplies for all three sites, sharing when necessary to avoid overstocking
  • Developing and managing monthly and daily dental assistant schedules for all three sites plus SBHC, coordinating with staffing vacation, holiday, sick leave
  • Supervising dental assistant workflow and daily clinical operations
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and assisting with hiring dental assistants
  • Maintaining an on the job training (OJT) program for dental assistants
  • Training, orienting, and evaluating newly hired dental assistants
  • Developing, conducting and maintaining competency checklists, training materials, and standard operating procedures
  • Reviewing and approving dental assistant timesheets
  • Conducting annual performance evaluations for dental assistants
  • Addressing employee performance issues and disciplinary actions in collaboration with the Practice Manager and Human Resources
  • Identifying staff training needs
  • Participating in quality improvement, infection control, and regulatory compliance activities
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Dental Director
