About The Position

The Outreach Dental Assistants main purpose is to provide appropriate patient care while working hand in hand with the Outreach Registered Dental Hygienist. The Outreach Dental Assistant will do this by helping to address the needs of the patient in order to be successful with overall health and wellness.

Requirements

  • One year certificate from college or technical school; or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current CPR certification required for all roles.
  • Current dental assisting certification with DANB required; three or more months related experience or training preferred.
  • Dental Assistant candidates must be eligible for full credentialing with partnering hospital system.

Nice To Haves

  • Non-Certified Role: Three or more months related experience and/or clinical training preferred.
  • Certified Role: three or more months related experience or training preferred.
  • Certification from an accredited agency within 12 months of hire is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, organizational skills and time management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and prepare patient for treatment.
  • Charts conditions of suspected decay and disease for treatment by hygienist and referral to a dentist in DentalSeal.
  • Performs sterilization and disinfection procedures of patient care areas and instruments.
  • Sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists the provider during dental procedures.
  • Completes necessary forms to be sent home with the child informing the guardian of treatment received.
  • Registers patients in DentalSeal and EDR, verifies insurance, demographics and guarantor.
  • Performs maintenance of equipment, replenish supplies and load and unload equipment as needed for transportation and setup at the school.
  • Perform sterilization and disinfection procedures in compliance with policy and procedures.
  • Understand insurance guidelines for allowable services and treatment frequency.
  • Apply effective communication techniques with a variety of patients.
  • Other duties as assigned.
