About The Position

The role of a Dental Assistant II is to provide advanced assistance to General Dentists during examinations and procedures. The Dental Assistant II performs expanded duties such as taking x-rays, polishing teeth, placing temporary fillings, and assisting with more complex dental procedures. They ensure patient comfort, sterilize instruments, maintain dental records, and educate patients on oral care. This role is responsible for assisting the dentist in all aspects of dentistry and performing extraoral duties or functions under the general or direct supervision of the General Dentist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ of experience as a Dental Assistant with knowledge of dental principles and practices.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Knowledge of dental assistant principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of dental materials, storage, handling, and applications.
  • Knowledge of procedures for taking dental x-rays.
  • Knowledge of how to sterilize instruments.
  • Ability to work creatively with other health care professionals from a variety of disciplines to achieve maximal results for the clinic's patients and provide an integrated delivery of healthcare.
  • Skill in assisting dentist in four-handed dentistry.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments and responsibilities in order to ensure compliance with established deadlines and protocols.
  • Excellent customer service with the ability to train others and adjust to different learning and communication styles.
  • Maintains confidentiality within the workplace with all written and verbal communications pertaining to patients, staff, and community operations.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems, with the ability to effectively navigate and enter data into an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Basic understanding of computers and software utilized in a dental care setting.
  • Strong analytical, employee relations, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with patients, dental staff, and the public.
  • Must be able to be at work regularly and on time.
  • Must be a dynamic self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently or in a group setting.
  • A can-do attitude and attention to detail, with the ability to organize.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM with minimal errors.
  • Must be able to use office equipment (i.e. copier, fax, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Certified by the State of California to take dental x-rays is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all the essential job duties of a Dental Assistant I as needed.
  • Assists the Dentist in advanced dental procedures and in all phases of four-handed dentistry.
  • Ensures that each operatory is set up in a consistent and agreed-upon manner.
  • Works with dentists, hygienists and other assistants to ensure smooth and efficient patient flow through the dental clinic.
  • Ensures that all lab cases are ready and pulled for the following day.
  • Follow the established maintenance schedule for all dental equipment (including handpieces); schedules service calls if repairs/maintenance are needed.
  • Provide chairside assisting as scheduled.
  • Maintain all clinical equipment and update documentation as required.
  • Assist dentists with examination and treatment of patient.
  • Report any incidents, clinic concerns, or changes to the Chief Dental Officer immediately.
  • May be required to work week nights and weekends.
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.
  • May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
