About The Position

This is a high-volume practice offering a rewarding, team-oriented work environment. Schedules and coordinates patient appointments when necessary. To maintain efficiency of the dental department through proper patient flow and business transactions. Works with office staff when necessary, to assure that transportation arrangements are made for patients needing them. Obtains medical records of patients when requested by practitioners. Maintains dental lab bills and packs and mails dental lab work. Answers patients' questions concerning the dental department and instructs them on use of services. Accompanies patient from waiting area to operatory, seats patients, and prepares patient as necessary for arrival of dentist. Arranges dental instruments and supplies at chairside appropriately for the procedures to be performed. Assists dentists at chairside during treatment and examination procedures, using 4-handed dentistry. Receives Nomad operator certificate if necessary. Needs a valid radiation certification accepted by the Virginia Dental Association. Records on dental charts verbal observations of the dentist during examinations using correct terminology with strict attention to accuracy. Determines vital signs of patients, assists in obtaining a medical history, and delivers post-operative instructions. Keeps the operatories stocked with disposable supplies and in good order. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment. Performs dental laboratory work as directed, including fabricating and trimming models and fabricating custom impression trays. Maintains and updates patient waiting list. Coordinates referrals. Insures that laboratory work has been received for appointed patients before their appointment time. Requisitions supplies as needed. Supports a team-based approach to patient-centered medical care. Attends work as scheduled. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor. Demonstrates competence in performing essential job functions.

Requirements

  • Valid radiation certification accepted by the Virginia Dental Association.
  • Ability to communicate pleasantly and well with patients and staff.
  • Must be able to adapt to emotionally demanding work conditions.
  • Good or excellent motor coordination, manual dexterity, and visual acuity to work quickly and precisely with small pieces of equipment and material.
  • Must be able to follow instructions precisely and give close attention to detail.
  • Neat appearance.
  • Pleasant manner.
  • Concern for patient confidentiality.
  • Dental Radiation Safety Certification required.
  • Typing skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a dental assistant desirable.
  • Secretarial experience preferred.
  • CPR Certification, preferred.
