About The Position

This position is for professionals who foster a humane and secure environment and ensure public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. The role involves preparing patients for dental treatment, equipment for use by the dentist, and providing chairside assistance for a wide range of dental procedures. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all work surfaces, equipment, materials, and instruments are properly disinfected/sterilized, maintaining and using automated processing equipment, establishing dental records, and controlling medical records within the clinic. Additionally, the role includes scheduling patients, preparing call-outs, supervising inmate patients, maintaining adequate stock levels of expendable supplies, and preparing purchase requests. A significant aspect of the role, along with all other correctional institution employees, is maintaining the security of the institution, with correctional responsibilities preceding all other duties.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required.
  • Must meet Selective Service Requirement.
  • Must have completed 1 year of acceptable course work, preceptorship, or other formal training and/or work assignments specifically designed to equip them with knowledge and skills required to perform intra-oral procedures.
  • Must submit evidence of completing a program that certifies them to administer X-rays or perform radiologic procedures (transcript or documentation including coursework).
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level.
  • Experience in dental assistance to general or specialized dentistry, dental assistant (expanded function) work, or any combination of these appropriate to the position being filled.
  • Must be rated well-qualified for the position, scoring at least half of the total possible points for the vacancy KSAs or competencies, if applying through CTAP or ICTAP.
  • Must submit appropriate documentation to support CTAP eligibility if applicable (agency notice, most recent performance appraisal, most recent SF-50).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the placement, packing, and polishing of amalgam restorations.
  • Experience with the shipping and receiving of all lab cases sent to the dental laboratory and all necessary paperwork.
  • Experience with the placement of a rubber dam and removal of temporary fillings with rotary slow-speed instruments during endodontic procedures.
