Dental Assistant 2

University of British ColumbiaVancouver, BC
CA$5,162 - CA$5,604Onsite

About The Position

This position is one of support to facilitate the operation of the dental school in a fast-paced environment. It will involve chairside assisting, but also sterilization and preparation of instruments and supplies for dental students. The work would be performed in the clinic and the Central Sterilization and Dispensary area, around the sink area, sterilizers, and ultrasonic units. Lighting is good; the floor is concrete, with some anti-fatigue matting throughout. Hazards include the weight of instrument cassettes, lifting of cassettes, and loading/unloading of trolleys. Very hot temperatures in the sterilizers require proper mitts when unloading. Disinfection solutions are varied (phenol, glutaraldehyde, isopropyl alcohol) and require gloves. Handling of used instrument cassettes could be hazardous. Work would be checked by a Dental Assistant III or IV. Errors could lead to damage to hand pieces, instruments, and equipment, or impact the clinic's functioning. Proper sterilization and disinfection are vital to patient care and student curriculum requirements.
