About The Position

This role involves overseeing demolition operations, ensuring safety compliance, and managing various aspects of material removal and disposal. The Demolition Supervisor will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, training employees, communicating effectively, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Key tasks include the removal of building materials, furniture, and ballast tank counterweights, as well as sorting and preparing scrap metal for market. The position requires adherence to all safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
  • Must pass a background check and credit check.
  • Ability to communicate with others effectively.
  • Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
  • Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.
  • An understanding of the metal market well enough to negotiate pricing, delivery process, and production demands.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to gain support of workforce and clientele when conducting business.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, & SA Recycling safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a weekly safety inspection of their department.
  • Conduct safety conversations with employees.
  • Train employees in various ways (e.g., one on one, tailgate meetings, and demonstrations).
  • Work with various forms of communications (e.g., email, bulletins, shipping documents, work assignments, production quotas).
  • Clean up work area at the end of shift.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly.
  • Organize materials for more effective use of space.
  • Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner.
  • Ensure cleanup is completed.
  • Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace area for safety and hygienic conditions.
  • Remove building materials such as fiberglass insulation, foam insulation, wood flooring, tile, concrete, wood frames, electrical wiring (out of service), light fixtures, etc., while on board a vessel or from sections of the vessel on the ground.
  • Remove furniture such as foot lockers, bed frames, cabinets, etc.
  • Remove counterweight from ballast tanks such as; 35lbs lead bars, pig iron, sand, mud, etc.
  • Remove and sort scrap metal, sheet metal, copper or brass piping, or any other material while on the vessel or on the ground.
  • Perform any other tasks determined to be necessary by company supervisors to assist in the production process.
