About The Position
We are seeking a patient, attentive, and dependable helper to support a male client in his 70s who has dementia. His wife, also in her 70s, needs additional help caring for him and ensuring his safety and daily routines are maintained. The client experiences significant memory-related challenges and requires frequent reminders, supervision, and redirection throughout the day. This role is best suited for a helper who understands that dementia care involves more than physical assistance. The ideal helper will be patient, observant, and proactive, providing gentle reminders and supervision to help prevent unsafe situations while preserving the client's dignity and independence.
Requirements
- Patient and comfortable with redirection and frequent reminders
- Strong awareness of household safety
- Compassionate, observant, and dependable
- Comfortable around dogs
- Able to communicate respectfully with both the client and his wife
Nice To Haves
- Experience with dementia care strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Provide reminders to use the bathroom
- Monitor and redirect him when needed for home safety
- Ensure water is turned off to prevent overflowing
- Monitor meals and ensure food is properly prepared and safe to eat
- Provide reminders regarding appropriate clothing, especially before going outside
- Provide companionship and supervision
- Assist with occasional errands (no doctor's appointments required)
- Help care for the family dog, a very friendly Dalmatian
- Maintain a safe and structured environment
