You should be passionate about working with customers and stakeholders to develop strategic recommendations around demand response programs and technologies. Duke Energy offers many Demand Response programs to help customers shift their usage in their homes, businesses, and communities away from grid peaks while also improving grid stability and reducing carbon emissions. The Demand Response Engineer has a key role in supporting continuous improvement of these programs. The engineer will become fluent in peak load shedding strategies and implementation, estimating customer energy savings, develop up-to-date knowledge of underlying equipment/building codes and standards, and stay abreast of best practices in the industry and among utility peers. The role will keep meticulous records and perform ongoing verification of planning assumptions to improve confidence in projections and support Demand Response innovation. The position interacts closely with Demand Response program managers, analytics, and other key internal stakeholders. While prior experience in Demand Response programs and technology is not required, we are looking for someone with a strong interest in learning building science, appliance-based loads and specifications, DER technologies, and software platforms that work with all the above.
