About The Position

The Delivery Supervisor is responsible for overseeing safe delivery vehicles and the efficient delivery of Beverage South’s products to both on and off-premise accounts within their designated territory and their respective Delivery Merchandisers. This role works with sales, delivery drivers, and merchandising personnel to provide superior customer service and retail execution. The Delivery Supervisor is expected to understand and enforce standards as set forth in the Beverage South Employee Handbook. The position reports directly to the Delivery Manager and is responsible for maximizing customer service by overseeing prompt, efficient, and accurate delivery procedures. Key responsibilities include ensuring quality standards are maintained by each delivery driver, rotating product during every delivery, and executing marketing standards such as displays. The Delivery Supervisor is also responsible for reporting and maintaining their respective fleet of delivery vehicles in a safe operating manner, adhering to DOT regulations and fleet maintenance requirements. This position requires working in a safe and courteous manner at all times and following all local, state, and federal laws regarding the sale and delivery of alcoholic beverages. Performance is measured by the achievement of the daily work schedule, rotation of products, retail standards, quality of work performed, safety record, and overall satisfaction of both internal (sales representatives) and external customers (retailers).

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of management experience
  • Class-A commercial driver’s license
  • Safe driving record
  • Knowledgeable on trucks and truck maintenance
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop employee relations and rapport
  • Physically capable of frequent lifting, bending, and turning

Responsibilities

  • Analyze scheduled routing with the Delivery Manager to ensure drivers can complete routes timely without jeopardizing rotation, customer service, or quality of work.
  • Evaluate workload daily to ensure drivers have necessary support.
  • Recommend changes and additions to manpower to maintain an adequate qualified driver pool by preparing additional employees for CDL licenses.
  • Coordinate driving and scheduling of CDL testing with the Delivery Manager.
  • Educate drivers on proper delivery methods, including product rotation, stocking shelves, maintaining neat backrooms, and building displays.
  • Teach good customer service skills and the importance of each job to overall business success.
  • Train drivers in building product displays and marketing at retail that meets or exceeds Beverage South merchandising retail standards.
  • Train drivers for the safe and courteous operation of company vehicles, including maintenance, reporting issues, accident procedures, and pre-trip inspections.
  • Ensure delivery drivers maintain a professional attitude and appearance, including wearing company uniforms and proper grooming.
  • Communicate regularly with co-workers (sales representatives and merchandisers) to foster teamwork for superior customer service and retail execution.
  • Train delivery drivers in accurate accounting for all delivery transactions, emphasizing orderly paperwork and balancing loads daily with zero product variances.
  • Reinforce check-in procedures in the warehouse.
  • Comply with all state, local, and federal laws pertaining to the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverage products.
  • Execute all responsibilities according to Beverage South Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure all loads are delivered to accounts with proper rotation, back stock, check-in, and displays executed to Beverage South standards.
  • Check-in by itemized detail on invoice against delivered products.
  • Face the front of coolers/shelves, repair damage, and fill six-packs.
  • Check package dates and rotate product locations.
  • Stock selling shelves, back stock, and display stock.
  • Check price parity between own products and competitors.
  • Check for out-of-stocks and alert salesmen if any.
  • Clean up after oneself, break down, and dispose of all cardboard.
  • Record any comments, questions, or notes from the retailer.
  • Show respect and thank the retailer.
  • Evaluate loads daily to ensure drivers have the capacity to deliver and assign additional help as needed.
  • Evaluate trucks daily to ensure they are in complete repair, clean inside and out, and that drivers maintain equipment.
  • Train all new candidates for driving.
  • Work with CDL permit holders to pass CDL tests, including pre-trip inspections, record keeping, and timesheets.
  • Train on all equipment used by drivers and proper safety techniques, including hand trucks, electric pallet jacks, and proper lifting techniques.
  • Train drivers on the end-of-day process of unloading trucks, handling breakage, managing empties, checking in with the warehouse, returning product to stock, and tying out monies.
  • Clean out trucks of all garbage.
  • Review upcoming vacations and perform delivery route coverage when a driver is on vacation.
  • Conduct monthly Driver meetings to cover safety topics.
  • Complete monthly inspections of respective delivery vehicles.
  • Work with the Delivery Manager to complete all Driver evaluations and address performance issues.
  • Ride with Drivers for continual training and skill improvement.
  • Provide route coverage for vacations, illness, or emergencies.
