Learn about our company culture directly from our team. A strong flatbed delivery driver is typically someone who’s physically capable, detail-oriented, and safety-focused. They’re comfortable securing loads properly, following procedures, and working outdoors in all kinds of weather. This type of driver enjoys a job that’s hands-on, requires problem-solving, and values independence and responsibility while on the road.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and remain compliant with drug & alcohol regulations.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record that meets company and insurance requirements.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license; CDL and/or Hazardous Materials Endorsement may be required depending on vehicle class and cargo.
  • Minimum of 1 year driving experience.
  • Strong safe-driving habits, reliability, and the ability to manage time effectively while completing multiple stops.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strict adherence to company, state, and federal regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated understanding of tire chain requirements and proper installation/removal procedures when conditions require chaining.
  • Experience driving in adverse weather conditions (rain, fog, wind, and icy conditions), adjusting speed, following distance, and route decisions to maintain safety.
  • Ability to take extra precautions during poor weather (pre-trip checks, traction readiness, use of lights, and conservative driving practices) and to stop/park safely when conditions warrant.
  • Applies additional load securement precautions during bad weather, including verifying strap/chain tension, using edge protection, tarping as required, and re-checking securement during the route.
  • Operate safely during early morning, nighttime, or low-visibility hours when required.
  • Stay alert and recognize signs of fatigue (yawning, drifting, slow reaction time) and take action immediately.
  • Adjust speed, increase following distance, and use headlights properly to maintain visibility and awareness of surroundings.
  • Be extra cautious for reduced visibility, wildlife, roadside hazards, and other drivers who may be fatigued or impaired.
  • Plan rest breaks as needed and safely stop/park if you are not alert enough to continue driving.
  • Communicate delays or safety concerns related to fatigue or low-visibility conditions to dispatch.

Responsibilities

  • Loading, securing, and transporting flatbed freight safely and efficiently.
  • Inspecting your truck, checking your straps, chains, and tarps, and making sure every load is properly secured before you hit the road.
  • Driving to job sites or customer locations.
  • Communicating with dispatch.
  • Assisting with unloading or positioning materials once you arrive.
  • Pick up orders from warehouses, suppliers, or production areas, verifying accuracy, proper labeling, and condition of items.
  • Transport and deliver products to customers or designated sites safely and within scheduled time frames.
  • Plan and follow efficient delivery routes using GPS or other navigation tools.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, provide delivery updates and respond to inquiries or concerns.
  • Review orders before and after delivery to confirm accuracy and satisfaction.
  • Obtain signatures, delivery confirmations, or payments when applicable.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues or damage.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Follow all company vehicle policies, including proper security, authorized driver rules, and operational procedures.
  • Immediately report accidents, mechanical issues, violations, or driving-related summons per company policy.
  • Secure flatbed loads using straps, chains, binders, and tarps according to DOT/company requirements; verify weight distribution and load stability before departure.
  • Perform en-route load checks and re-tension securement devices as needed, especially after the first few miles and after sudden weather changes.
  • Operate safely in adverse weather by adjusting routes and driving practices, using chains where required, and communicating delays/road closures to dispatch.
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, route sheets, DVIRs, and required paperwork.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company fleet policies.
  • Comply with FMCSA guidelines, including maintaining a complete Driver Qualification (DQ) file.
  • Participate in annual driving record reviews, safety evaluations, and required certifications.
