About The Position

Hughes Supply HVAC, a trade name of Hajoca Corporation, is seeking a friendly, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious Delivery Driver Non CDL for their Savannah, GA location. This role involves operating trucks safely, loading and unloading merchandise, understanding shipping documents, collecting payments for cash sales, resolving customer discrepancies, and providing sales leads. The driver will also be responsible for daily truck inspections and reporting any mechanical issues. Hajoca Corporation is a large, privately-held wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies, known for its decentralized business philosophy and focus on relationships and talented people.

Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess a proper and valid driver’s license.
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and at least every two years while employed.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations, delivering to various destinations including job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, and other wholesalers.
  • Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise, ensuring it is properly secured to prevent shifting, damage, or falling.
  • Ensure necessary equipment for safe unloading is available.
  • Understand shipping documents for each delivery and have accurate directions to each destination.
  • Review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy.
  • Unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it as directed by the receiving party.
  • Obtain legible signatures for all merchandise delivered per Company policy and procedure.
  • Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries before releasing material.
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Load the truck at other locations with merchandise, including items picked up from vendors, returned by customers, and purchased from other wholesalers.
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered during deliveries.
  • Inspect the truck and required parts/accessories for safe operating condition before departure.
  • Keep the truck clean of debris in the cab and body.
  • Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
  • Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report at the end of the workday if driving a vehicle over 10,001 lbs. GVWR and a defect or deficiency is found.
  • Remove keys from the truck at the end of the workday and store them in the approved location.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management.
