About The Position

Hughes Supply, a trade name of Hajoca Corporation, is seeking a Delivery Driver Non CDL for their Thomasville, NC location. This role is ideal for individuals who are friendly, thrive on providing excellent customer service, are detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and enjoy working independently. The company is a large, privately-held wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies, founded in 1858 and operating on principles of "Service, Integrity, Reliability."

Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Possess a proper and valid driver’s license
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and again at least every two years while employed and performing this job function.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations, delivering to various destinations including job sites, customer facilities, vendor facilities, other Hajoca locations, or other locations as directed by management.
  • Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise, ensuring the load is properly secured to prevent shifting, damage, or falling, and confirming necessary equipment for safe unloading is available.
  • Understand shipping documents for each delivery and have accurate directions to each destination.
  • Review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy.
  • Unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it as directed by the receiving party, obtaining a legible signature for all delivered merchandise per Company policy.
  • Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries before releasing material to the customer.
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Load the truck at other locations with merchandise, including items picked up from vendors, returned by customers, or purchased from other wholesalers.
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered during deliveries.
  • Inspect the truck and required parts/accessories for safe operating condition before departure, and keep the truck clean.
  • Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
  • Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report at the end of the workday for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if any defect or deficiency is found.
  • Remove keys from the truck at the end of the workday and store them in the approved location.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management.
