About The Position

US Foods is seeking a Delivery Driver Lead to join their team. This role involves training and mentoring new drivers, monitoring driver performance, conducting customer site visits, and ensuring safety standards are met. The Delivery Driver Lead will also be responsible for safely driving trucks, unloading products, verifying deliveries, handling customer service, and supporting the overall training and development of the driving team. This position requires flexibility in schedule, including potential early mornings, evenings, overnights, and weekends, especially for training purposes. The role is crucial in maintaining US Foods' commitment to safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid CDL Class A issued by the state of legal residence with necessary endorsements and meet all DOT qualifications.
  • Doubles endorsement required.
  • No CDL restrictions permitted.
  • Minimum of six (6) months commercial driving experience or three (3) months commercial driving experience in the food and/or beverage delivery industry required.
  • Must be willing and able to train Delivery Drivers, Shuttle Drivers, and Hostlers.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in the English language, including understanding highway traffic signs and signals, responding to official inquiries, and completing reports and records.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 20–80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift.
  • Comfortable driving and working in inclement weather conditions with frequent stops (10+ per shift).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate manual transmission preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor new drivers on company policies, procedures, safety standards, and performance expectations.
  • Monitor driver compliance and performance.
  • Perform customer site visits to determine delivery feasibility and identify potential safety concerns.
  • Partner with Night Warehouse Supervisors on safety initiatives, demonstrations, and visual aids.
  • Conduct post-accident ride-alongs to assist with root cause analysis and retraining efforts.
  • Participate in offsite training and professional development opportunities.
  • Successfully complete all company-mandated training programs and assessments, including the US Foods Driver Onboarding Program.
  • Safely drive trucks to customers and meet scheduled customer delivery times.
  • Carefully unload products from trailers using a two-wheeler, pallet jack, or by hand and place products in designated customer storage areas.
  • Verify delivery accuracy with customers and obtain required signatures.
  • Handle collections and payments from customers when applicable.
  • Professionally perform customer service responsibilities to enhance the customer experience.
  • Support the training and development of Delivery Drivers, Shuttle Drivers, and Hostlers.
