About The Position

Hajoca Corporation is seeking a Delivery Driver with a CDL to join the Green Art Plumbing Supply team at their Freeport, NY location. This role involves operating trucks safely, loading and unloading merchandise, ensuring order accuracy, collecting payments, resolving discrepancies, and providing sales leads. The driver will also be responsible for vehicle inspections and reporting any mechanical issues. Requirements

  • Be able to drive a vehicle over 26,001 lbs.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Possess hazmat endorsement if operating a vehicle that requires placarding for hazardous materials.
  • Have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy.
  • Be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and at least every two years thereafter.
  • Know the laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular.
  • Be able to safely operate any delivery vehicle, including commercial motor vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs. or more.
  • Know of, be able to apply, and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment.
  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers.
  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations.
  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment.
  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks safely and in compliance with Company rules, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • Load the truck at the Profit Center with Hajoca merchandise to be delivered, ensuring proper securing of the load.
  • Ensure necessary equipment for safe unloading is available.
  • Affix appropriate DOT hazmat truck placards if hauling hazardous materials in excess of 1,000 lbs.
  • Understand shipping documents and have accurate directions to each delivery destination.
  • Review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy.
  • Unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it as directed by the customer.
  • Obtain legible signatures for all merchandise delivered per Company policy and procedure.
  • Collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries prior to releasing material.
  • Work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Load the truck at other locations with merchandise (e.g., from vendors, returns, other wholesalers).
  • Provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses.
  • Inspect the truck and required parts/accessories to determine safe operating condition before departure.
  • Keep the truck clean of debris in the cab and body.
  • Advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck.
  • Complete the Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report when driving a delivery vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if a defect or deficiency is found.
  • Remove keys from the truck at the end of the workday and store them in the approved location.
  • Successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management.
