About The Position

A.F. Wendling's Food Service is seeking candidates for their Delivery Driver Apprentice Program. This program offers training and the opportunity to obtain a Class A CDL, leading to a position as a Delivery Driver in the Transportation Department. The program focuses on developing driving skills to become proficient in operating a tractor-trailer combination, with the goal of obtaining a full Class A license within 60 days. A.F. Wendling's Food Service will cover initial CDL fees, DOT physical costs, and provide a truck for practice and testing.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid WV Driver's License
  • Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
  • Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
  • Adhere to a Schedule
  • Ability to understand and adhere to an assigned schedule
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Time Management Skills - Managing one's own time
  • 2-year commitment post class A acquisition required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and foster a good relationship with the customer as a representative of A.F. Wendling Food Service
  • Drive to and deliver customer orders according to a pre-determined route
  • Unload products from trailer, with a two-wheeler and a ramp, and place in designated customer storage areas
  • Verify delivery of correct items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money (cash or check) where required.
  • Contact management for authorization concerning discrepancies on invoice and communicate all errors and returns
  • Maintain DOT logs as required throughout the day
  • Perform pre-trip duties including, but not limited to checking route numbers and account numbers for assigned deliveries, count items and check customer invoices of orders loaded, perform DOT pre-trip inspection on provided DVIR form.
  • Perform post-trip duties including, but not limited to unload damaged goods or customer returns, complete necessary paperwork, turn in all collected funds, park and secure truck, complete DOT Post-trip inspection on provided DVIR form and turn in to company representative
