About The Position

The Delinquency Control Specialist I helps preserve the credit union's assets by controlling delinquent loan accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral. Handles repossessions, negative shares, and e-OSCAR transactions. Department: Risk Management Classification: Non-Exempt

Requirements

  • One to three years of similar or related experience.
  • A high school education or GED.
  • A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
  • Must have good communication skills (verbal and written). Proficient in using general office equipment such as computers, copiers/scanners, and calculators. Familiar with MS Office software (Word and Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail following to set schedules; takes appropriate action to bring current.
  • Achieves goals for collections of all 30 day delinquent accounts assigned.
  • Achieves goals for collections of all 60 day delinquent accounts assigned.
  • Achieves goals for collections of all 90 day delinquent accounts assigned.
  • Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; makes recommendations to repossess collateral when other arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
  • Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/ charged-off loans and potential underwriting problems.
  • Maintains accurate files and reports on all collections and recovery activity.
  • Updates and maintains credit reporting systems.
  • Ensures that collection activity is both within credit union policy and all relevant regulations.
  • Adheres to credit union policies and procedures; stays knowledgeable of and complies with applicable laws and regulations, including BSA/AML and OFAC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
