About The Position

Haymarket Center is a leading provider of addictions and behavioral health treatment, utilizing evidence-based interventions and state-of-the-art programming. Our theme, "Focus on Success," emphasizes the collective effort of every employee in creating a collaborative environment for individual and team success. Haymarket Center is the largest not-for-profit community-based adult detoxification, residential, and outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Chicago, accredited by CARF and licensed by the state of Illinois. We are seeking a hands-on Deli Manager to lead the daily operations of Mac's Deli, a mission-driven training site for individuals entering the workforce. This role offers real-world food service experience and pathways to long-term employment, ideal for a food service professional who values mentorship, community impact, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 2–3+ years of experience in deli, restaurant, or food service management
  • Strong culinary and food preparation skills
  • Experience with POS systems and inventory management
  • Passion for mentoring and developing others
  • Ability to build relationships within the West Loop restaurant community
  • Must have a valid City of Chicago food safety and sanitation certification.
  • Must have retail management experience in the food service industry.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to equipment use and work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily deli operations (food prep, service, quality, and cleanliness)
  • Train and coach clients in food service skills and workplace readiness
  • Manage POS systems, inventory, ordering, and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
  • Build relationships with West Loop restaurants and food vendors to support job placement opportunities
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and team-oriented environment
  • Interview and hire new transitional worker staff
  • Help clients articulate their interests, values, and skills
  • Assist clients with obtaining transferable skills and securing PT or FT competitive employment in the community
