About The Position

The Somers Deli Manager is responsible for providing quality customer service and directing all functions and activities of the Deli/Seafood Department personnel. This role aims to achieve established sales and profit goals for the department and maintain efficient operations within store policies. The manager will oversee staff, manage schedules, control inventory, ensure product quality and freshness, and maintain sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school education or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years of experience preferably in a Deli/Seafood environment or similar.
  • ServeSafe Certified.
  • Thoroughly familiar with all products carried in the Deli Department.
  • Friendly demeanor.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Proficient understanding of cleaning and sanitation practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Self-starter ability.
  • Integrity.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to lift up to a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Math skills necessary to supervise and handle department operations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties in a safe and efficient manner, enforcing safety and sanitation standards.
  • Greets all customers and provides them with quality customer service.
  • Assigns and supervises staff to meet merchandising and production plans, while maintaining high staff relations.
  • Ensures all department personnel are trained in the store’s methods of performing department activities.
  • Performs employee relations activities including hiring, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
  • Manages schedules for direct reports, ensuring adequate coverage for daily operations, vacations, and call-outs.
  • Follows and enforces proper department dress code policy.
  • Meets weekly payroll budget.
  • Meets gross margin and target goals and monthly sales projections.
  • Manages the weekly/monthly department buy/sell.
  • Manages workload allocation for all direct reports.
  • Follows approved Deli/Seafood department plans for effective space management based on product movement, consumer demand, and profitability.
  • Monitors the receiving and unloading of Deli/Seafood merchandise to ensure accuracy of invoices, billing, pricing, quality, code dates, counts, and condition.
  • Enforces receiving procedures according to store policy.
  • Orders and maintains inventory to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover, maximizing sales and minimizing stock issues.
  • Ensures all Deli/Seafood products are rotated using the oldest products first (first-in, first-out).
  • Ensures refrigerated cases and displays are stocked and properly faced at all times.
  • Plans and builds department displays for maximum sales and turnover.
  • Responsible for monthly inventories and meeting margin goals.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to department procedures and takes action to control these goods.
  • Monitors and maintains shrink logs daily and reacts to excessive shrink.
  • Verifies front-end (POS) accuracy and integrity.
  • Participates in training activities to improve personal skill levels, department processes, and customer service.
  • Enforces general housekeeping and a regular sanitation and cleaning program that meets department and health regulations.
  • Meets the physical requirements to perform the job functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
