About The Position

This position's primary objective is to provide customer service and cooking support to the Deli Department, contributing to a positive shopping and working environment. The role emphasizes proper preparation and display of product, along with prompt, courteous, and accurate customer service. Key learning areas include product knowledge, case sets, tray assembly, and equipment use. The position involves ongoing moderate to heavy lifting, walking, standing, operation of deli equipment, exposure to hot surfaces and oils, and requires social skills, listening skills, judgment, decision-making, reading, writing, and math. Functions and work hours may vary based on business needs, with assignments and direction provided by the Deli Manager or person in charge.

Requirements

  • Lifting/carrying up to 60 lbs.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 250 lbs.
  • Equipment operation (box cutter, tongs, scales, wrapper, knives, slicer, broaster, chicken fryer, food processor, pizza oven, cleaning utensils)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for food preparation, including preparing meals in steamers, ovens, or deep fryers, cooking in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served, ensuring proper handling, sanitation, freshness, and quality of all products, assuming 100% responsibility for the quality of products served, and properly shaving and slicing deli meats and cheeses.
  • Fill and rotate deli hot cases and displays, ensuring they are full, clean, and attractive, maintaining proper refrigeration, handling product properly to avoid damage, coding dates on product, and separating outdated or unfit product.
  • Assist in receiving of product, including correctly matching deliveries to invoices and signing, monitoring product quality, and storing product with proper refrigeration.
  • Break down department and perform cleaning duties, including closing the kitchen properly and following closing procedures, assisting others in closing the kitchen, washing dishes, breaking down, washing, and sanitizing slicers, cleaning cases, ovens, and fryers, sweeping and mopping floors, and using personal protective devices as instructed.
  • Assist with ordering, merchandising, pricing procedures, product development, and employee training.
  • Follow all store and department policies and procedures.
