That's WEIS! The Bakery - Deli Manager is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned. This role promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates. The manager smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer issues promptly in a polite and professional manner. The role focuses on continuous improvement in all areas of the department and makes changes to ensure progress. The manager takes customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude. The manager determines what the customer is looking for in terms of size, flavor and appearance and creates the finished product in a timely fashion. The manager manages department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, orders products and supplies to meet customer demand in order to maximize sales and profits. They maintain inventory levels to ensure the highest quality of freshness. The manager schedules all Deli and Food Service associates, oversees and participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance and delegates work assignments to effectively utilize talents and abilities while maximizing profits for the department. The manager participates in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews and utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates. They develop and implement merchandising plans that meet the financial objectives of the department individually or in cooperation with supervisors. The manager merchandises displays in order to attract customers and drive sales and monitors competitor activity concerning merchandising, pricing, quality, and comparison signage. They prepare, maintain, and track records concerning inventories to calculate gross monthly profits according to company guidelines and maintain associate department records and reports on all important matters including associate performance and discipline, sales, future, etc. The manager checks and verifies all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing. They may help unload merchandise and transport to sales floor or storage area. The manager enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation. They monitor product quality and freshness and control Deli and Food Service expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs and reducing losses due to damages, spoiled product and shrink. The manager ensures associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products and maintains food safety and freshness by properly removing and recording out of code products. They keep Deli service areas well stocked and always appealing to meet customer demands. The manager smiles and greets customers, answers customer questions and helps resolve customer concerns promptly in a polite and professional manner. They ensure freshness and condition of merchandise in display cases along with proper prices and correct signs and properly rotates product. The manager handles spoiled or damaged products or products close to expiration according to company procedures and standards. They operate slicing equipment to provide meats and cheeses based on customer preferences, package items and apply sticker showing price, weight, and date. The manager prepares ready-to-eat foods to individual order of customers and prepares platters of sliced meats, cheeses, and vegetable trays. This also requires safe use of knives/kitchen utensils. The manager adheres to company recipes and safety policies when preparing food such as chicken, pizza, sandwiches, salads and other various hot or cold food items. They schedule all Bakery associates, oversee and participate in training, reward and recognize performance and delegate work assignments to effectively utilize talents and abilities while maximizing profits for the department. The manager participates in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews and utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates. They decorate cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs or by creating custom designs, and use a variety of creams, frostings, and fillings with consistent outcome. The manager makes icing for cakes and other related products. They may operate and be responsible for cash register operations, follow policies and procedures to ensure proper money handling to avoid cash overages or shortages, and adhere to company and state laws related to tobacco and alcohol sales. The manager maintains backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting 5S procedures and is responsible for general sanitation in the department. They follow cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements and dispose of trash properly. The manager ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors and is responsible to continuously improve job performance. They are responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc. The manager may also be called upon to assist in other departments. The manager supervises Associates within the Department and may assume total leadership of the building in absence of store management. The specific number of Associates under supervision depends upon the store size and presence of store management.
