About The Position

The Deli/Bakery Department Manager oversees all operations of the deli and bakery departments, ensuring high-quality prepared foods, baked goods, and exceptional customer service. This role is responsible for managing inventory, ensuring food safety compliance, driving sales, and leading a team to meet department goals while maintaining an appealing and efficient department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in deli, bakery, or food service operations.
  • Strong knowledge of deli and bakery product preparation, handling, and food safety regulations.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, POS systems).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in hot or cold environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in food safety (e.g., ServSafe) is a plus.
  • Experience with merchandising and sales strategies in a retail grocery setting.
  • Knowledge of baking techniques, deli meat/cheese handling, or prepared food trends.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, including food preparation, baking, packaging, and merchandising of deli and bakery products to ensure freshness, quality, and attractive presentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels, order product and supplies, manage stock rotation, and minimize waste to maintain product quality and reduce shrink.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise deli and bakery staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Address customer inquiries, resolve complaints, and provide product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including HACCP, FDA, and local health department standards, for both deli and bakery operations.
  • Develop strategies to increase department sales, meet financial targets, and implement promotional displays to drive customer engagement.
  • Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation in deli cases, bakery displays, and storage areas.
  • Manage department budget, control labor costs, and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with store management and other departments to align on store goals, promotions, and operational needs.
