About The Position

WEIS is looking for a Deli - Bakery Manager who is passionate about teamwork and the growth of its associates and communities. This role is responsible for promoting excellent customer relations, managing department inventories, scheduling associates, developing merchandising plans, and ensuring food safety and sanitation standards are met. The manager will also be responsible for decorating bakery products, operating the cash register, and maintaining backroom security and organization. This position supervises associates within the department and may assume leadership of the building in the absence of store management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum (3) years' experience in management in retail/restaurant/supermarket environment.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without an accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business related field or Food Service-related field desirable.
  • Previous decorating experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer focused behavior with associates.
  • Takes customer orders over the phone or in person, determines customer needs, and creates finished products in a timely fashion.
  • Manages department inventories by tracking sales reports, ordering products and supplies to meet customer demand, and maintaining inventory levels for freshness.
  • Schedules all Deli and Food Service associates, oversees and participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance, and delegates work assignments.
  • Participates in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews.
  • Utilizes the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates.
  • Develops and implements merchandising plans that meet the financial objectives of the department.
  • Merchandises displays to attract customers and drive sales.
  • Monitors competitor activity concerning merchandising, pricing, quality, and signage.
  • Prepares, maintains, and tracks records concerning inventories to calculate gross monthly profits.
  • Maintains associate department records and reports on important matters.
  • Checks and verifies department deliveries and invoices.
  • May help unload merchandise and transport to sales floor or storage area.
  • Enforces and follows department practices regarding receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation.
  • Monitors product quality and freshness.
  • Controls Deli and Food Service expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs, and reducing losses.
  • Ensures associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products.
  • Maintains food safety and freshness by properly removing and recording out-of-code products.
  • Keeps Deli service areas well stocked and appealing.
  • Ensures freshness and condition of merchandise in display cases along with proper prices and correct signs.
  • Properly rotates product.
  • Handles spoiled or damaged products or products close to expiration according to company procedures.
  • Operates slicing equipment to provide meats and cheeses based on customer preferences.
  • Packages items and applies sticker showing price, weight, and date.
  • Prepares ready-to-eat foods to individual order of customers.
  • Prepares platters of sliced meats, cheeses, and vegetable trays.
  • Uses safe use of knives/kitchen utensils.
  • Adheres to company recipes and safety policies when preparing food.
  • Schedules all Bakery associates, oversees and participates in training, rewards and recognizes performance, and delegates work assignments.
  • Decorates cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs or by creating custom designs.
  • Uses a variety of creams, frostings, and fillings with consistent outcome.
  • Makes icing for cakes and other related products.
  • May operate and be responsible for cash register operations.
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure proper money handling.
  • Adheres to company and state laws related to tobacco and alcohol sales.
  • Maintains backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting 5S procedures.
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department.
  • Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements.
  • Disposes of trash properly.
  • Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE).
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
  • Supervises Associates within the Department.
  • May assume total leadership of the building in absence of store management.
