About The Position

Gourmet Gang is seeking a Deli Associate for their Downtown Norfolk location. This role involves providing excellent customer service, preparing food items, and operating the cash register. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about food, enjoys customer interaction, and is committed to maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position is part of a growing hospitality group known for its creative menus and commitment to quality.

Responsibilities may include taking orders, operating the POS system, answering phones, expediting orders, and preparing salads and sandwiches. Team members are also expected to participate in opening and closing procedures, maintain cleanliness, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements

• Customer service experience, preferably in a food service setting
• Food prep experience
• Experience running a cash register a plus
• Able to follow directions and work independently
• Effective verbal communication skills
• Reliable transportation

Responsibilities

• Take orders, run the cash register, answer the phone, expedite orders, or prepare salads and sandwiches depending on assigned station.
• Stock stations with ingredients and refill as needed; portion out sides into containers.
• Prepare and package salads and sandwiches according to set recipes.
• Greet customers with a warm and welcoming attitude.
• Assist walk-in customers with information and suggestions about menu items and catering offerings.
• Operate the cash register and POS system to process transactions efficiently and accurately.
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve any issues promptly and professionally.
• Maintain cleanliness of the front of the store, including wiping down tables and refilling the soda dispenser.
• Prep paper goods (catering boxes, sandwich paper, stickers for containers, etc.) and par out salad dressings and sauces during down times.
• Assist customers over the phone by providing information and suggestions about menu items and catering offerings and taking orders.
• Pull orders together, ensuring the food is up to standard and correct condiments and paper goods are included.
• Participate in opening and closing procedures, including doing dishes, mopping, replenishing paper items in the bathroom, taking out trash, and miscellaneous tasks assigned by the manager.
• Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operations, including stepping in to other roles, as needed.
