Defense Investigator
About The Position
GDIT is seeking a Defense Investigator to support our OMC program in Arlington, VA. This role requires full-time onsite reporting due to the secure work environment. The investigator will support defense counsel in multiple areas of pre-trial investigation and trial preparation for the Military Commissions convened under the Military Commissions Act of 2009. Responsibilities include reviewing factual allegations, psychosocial history of the defendant, government conduct of investigations, interviewing expert witnesses, reviewing cultural issues, and assisting with other investigative needs as directed by counsel. Frequent travel, both local and international, is required.
Requirements
- Active TS/SCI security clearance (must be held in JPAS/DISS)
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Legal Studies, National Security, Intelligence, Paralegal Studies) or equivalent combination
- 8 years experience in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to law, law enforcement, criminal defense, intelligence analysis, psychology, social work, mental health related disciplines, anthropology, sociology, journalism, or human rights.
- At least 3 years of experience working with criminal defense, civil rights, immigration, or human rights attorneys on behalf of individual clients.
- Active US Passport.
- Experience with conducting interviews
- Knowledge of the investigative process, rules of evidence, and familiarity with reviewing legal case materials
- Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous task requirements within a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral), strong attention to detail, excellent analytical and presentation skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a demanding environment
- Ability to work independently
- Able to report on-site in Arlington, VA
- 25-50% travel per month, including local, domestic, and international travel, as determined by MCDO mission needs. Average of 3-7 days of total travel in a month, highly variable.

- Knowledge of Military Commission process
- Progressive experience providing support to criminal litigation
Responsibilities
- Reviewing factual allegations related to the case
- Reviewing psychosocial history of the defendant
- Investigating government conduct of the investigation, interrogation, and prosecution of the defendant
- Interviewing expert witnesses for and against the defendant
- Reviewing cultural issues relating to the defendant
- Assisting with any other area of investigation deemed necessary by counsel for the defendant
- Executing frequent travel, both local and international
