About The Position

Shaw Industries is seeking a Defect Technician for Shift 5 (Monday–Thursday, 4 p.m.–2 a.m.). This role is responsible for operating the defecting process safely and efficiently to achieve maximum production while minimizing off‑quality. Requirements

  • Must be able to bend, squat, and stoop several times a day.
  • Must be able to stand for 8 – 12 hours a day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs several times through the day.
  • Must be able to assist in lifting up to 75 lbs. several times a day.
  • Must be able to lift 35-50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day.
  • Must be able to handle the stress of meeting goals and production requirements.
  • Must be able to visualize defects in the product.
  • Must be able to visualize color defects in the product.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math ability.
  • Must be able to operate a lift truck once trained.
  • Must be capable of learning and performing additional operations.
  • Must be capable of being trained on current computer systems and software.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment for saw profiling, tools, and stain application.
  • Make machine/process adjustments on line and on computer.
  • Follow specific instructions on each order.
  • Achieve set quality standards.
  • Verify that the correct chemistry is being used for Hasko stain (all hasko stains are water based therefore the chemistry number will begin with the letter W).
  • Monitor parameters such as speed.
  • Make adjustments to settings to accommodate different sizes and widths of boards.
  • Make adjustments to settings to account for the texture of the boards.
  • Overall visual control of the entire line.
  • Visual inspections of products for defects and grading.
  • Complete computerized quality reports.
  • Perform quality checks on finished products by assembling.
  • Work with saw blades and other tools and managing logs/records of usage.
  • Keep machines and work areas clean and free of dust.
  • Read and analyze charts and graphs.
  • Take measurements and work with SPC charts.
  • Willing to be an On the Job Trainer (OJT).
  • Operate the box feeding robot machines.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Take an active role in committees.
  • Cross-training for other jobs on finishing line.
