About The Position

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. Position Overview: DCI is hiring a full-time Dedicated Aide (DA) Manager. The Dedicated Aide Manager provides daily supervision of the Dedicated Aide team and assists in the onboarding process of new Dedicated Aides, substitute coverage during absences and coordination of afternoon duty posts and responsibilities to support after school programming. The DA Manager also assists in the supervision and instruction of students with disabilities or special needs in a regular or special education classroom; observes and documents student progress; implements plans for instruction; and provides clerical support, as needed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to lift and carry orders and deliveries short distances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in a school environment.
  • Comfortable in a Mac environment.
  • Able to draft and create documents and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.
  • Clear a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent is highly preferred
  • Preference for candidates that are bilingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese and English.

Responsibilities

  • Dedicated Aide supervision which includes but is not limited to: overseeing time and attendance, coaching, providing/seeking out professional development opportunities, and evaluating performance.
  • Assisting with performance evaluations with support from the Special Education Coordinators and Director of Student Supports.
  • Assisting Student Support leadership with any relevant Dedicated Aide initiatives in support of DCI students.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to draft and create documents and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems through recommending and implementing creative solutions.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing an opportunity for students with disabilities or special needs to participate in classroom activities.
  • Support student’s independent achievement and growth through implementation of student's classroom aides and services as indicated by the IEP to support students' access to instruction including monitoring the completion of academic tasks.
  • Management and tracking of student behavior plans and data trackers as indicated by their IEP to increase student use of strategies to promote independence and to inform decisions for students.
  • Provide opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire, and use their tools to complete their work.
  • Reinforce the use of communication efforts of students with disabilities under the guidance of the instructional team to include self advocacy.
  • Implement academic instruction taught by a teacher for individuals or small groups for the purpose of meeting learning goals, as described by an IEP and/or district benchmarks.
  • Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions; document progress.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in communication between school and home per a student’s IEP.
  • Confer with teachers on a regular basis for the purpose of assisting in evaluating the progress of students with disabilities or special needs and/or implementing IEP objectives.
  • Assist other staff members as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Support teachers as an additional instructor in the classroom
  • Teach courses and/or substitute teach as the sole instructor as necessary; and perform administrative duties for the department.
  • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students.
  • Follow the Special Education teams Dedicated Aide expectations.
  • Other duties as assigned, to include after school duty posts and support.
