About The Position

The Deckhand will assist with the operation and maintenance of 150-passenger vessels including the application of emergency procedures and assisting as a member of the vessel crew with line handling, cleaning, and assisting passengers.

Requirements

Knowledge of and ability to apply emergency and fire regulations, emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and systems applicable to vessel operation.
Knowledge of proper vessel handling and docking.
Basic knowledge of vessel maintenance.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Ability to work directly with the public, providing information, and assistance on a daily basis.
High school diploma or equivalent.
One (1) to two (2) years of maritime industry experience.
Must have a driver’s license.
Current First Aid CPR certificate.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug test; subject to random drug testing.
Must be able to pass a breathalyzer test before each shift for Kensington Mine.

Responsibilities

Responsible for line handling, taking on fuel and water, handling gangways, removal of trash, and basic vessel and engine maintenance.
Functions as one of the key crew members when instituting emergency procedures, following the emergency checklist and explaining any deviation from the latter, and applies knowledge of and explains the first actions to take in the event of man overboard and vessel flooding.
Assists with training crew members during periodic drills.
