About The Position

The Deck Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily pool-deck operations and ensuring a safe, organized, professional, and engaging environment for swimmers, instructors, and families. The Deck Supervisor serves as a leader on the pool deck and is responsible for supporting instructors, maintaining safety standards, monitoring swimmer progress, assisting with pool operations, and ensuring that every family receives the Golden Experience that Goldfish Swim School is known for. This position requires strong leadership, communication, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to remain actively engaged throughout the entire shift.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a swim instructor preferred.
  • Strong understanding of swim instruction and swimmer progression.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coach and provide constructive feedback to instructors.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or required according to company policy.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and other scheduled shifts as needed.

  • Ability to enter the pool when necessary.
  • Ability to assist swimmers when needed.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move pool-related equipment when required.
  • Ability to maintain constant visual awareness of swimmers and instructors.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain constant awareness of all activities occurring on the pool deck.
  • Ensure all swimmers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Enforce all Goldfish Swim School safety procedures and policies.
  • Immediately address unsafe behavior or conditions.
  • Ensure the pool deck remains clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Monitor instructors to ensure proper student-to-teacher ratios are maintained.
  • Ensure instructors are actively engaged with their assigned swimmers.
  • Assist with emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or injuries to the Pool Operations Manager and Wet Side AGM immediately.
  • Ensure the pool deck maintains a professional and welcoming appearance.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to instructors throughout each shift.
  • Ensure instructors are prepared and in their assigned locations before classes begin.
  • Monitor instructor performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Coach instructors on proper teaching techniques, class management, and swimmer engagement.
  • Ensure instructors are following curriculum and teaching skills appropriate for each swimmer's level.
  • Assist instructors with challenging swimmers or classroom situations.
  • Help maintain a positive, energetic, and professional teaching environment.
  • Step in to teach classes when staffing needs require it.
  • Hold instructors accountable for following Goldfish standards and expectations.
  • Communicate staff concerns, performance issues, and accomplishments to the Pool Operations Manager and Wet Side AGM.
  • Monitor swimmer development and progress throughout classes.
  • Identify swimmers who demonstrate readiness to advance to the next level.
  • Identify swimmers who may be struggling or remaining in the same level for an extended period.
  • Communicate swimmer concerns and recommendations to management.
  • Ensure instructors are properly documenting swimmer progress.
  • Conduct swimmer skill evaluations when assigned.
  • Provide instructors with feedback regarding swimmer development.
  • Help ensure swimmers are receiving instruction appropriate to their individual skill level.
  • Encourage instructors to celebrate swimmer achievements and create a positive learning environment.
  • Monitor overall pool conditions throughout the shift.
  • Ensure required pool chemistry checks are completed according to company procedures.
  • Monitor chlorine, pH, temperature, and overall water quality.
  • Report abnormal chemical readings to the Pool Operations Manager and Wet Side AGM immediately.
  • Report issues involving pumps, filtration systems, chemical systems, or other pool equipment.
  • Assist management with maintaining proper pool operating standards.
  • Ensure required operational checks are completed and documented.
  • Maintain awareness of any conditions that could affect swimmer safety or the quality of the pool environment.
  • Monitor instructor attendance and punctuality.
  • Ensure instructors are clocked in and ready for their scheduled shifts.
  • Communicate call-outs, tardiness, and staffing concerns to management.
  • Assist management with identifying coverage when staffing issues occur.
  • Ensure classes begin and end on time.
  • Monitor transitions between classes to ensure the deck remains organized and prepared.
  • Ensure instructors remain in their assigned areas unless otherwise directed.
  • Maintain a friendly, welcoming, and positive presence on the pool deck.
  • Greet and acknowledge families when appropriate.
  • Assist families with basic questions or concerns.
  • Ensure swimmers feel encouraged, supported, and celebrated.
  • Help create a fun and energetic environment for children.
  • Recognize swimmer accomplishments and milestones.
  • Ensure instructors are creating meaningful connections with swimmers.
  • Address deck-related concerns professionally and respectfully.
  • Escalate complaints or complex customer concerns to the Pool Operations Manager or Wet Side AGM when necessary.
  • Represent Goldfish Swim School in a way that reflects our commitment to safety, fun, and exceptional service.
  • Lead by example at all times.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
  • Maintain a positive attitude during busy or challenging shifts.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members and families.
  • Follow direction from the Pool Operations Manager and Wet Side AGM.

  • Accurately identifies swimmer strengths, weaknesses, progress, and readiness for advancement.
  • Properly monitors pool conditions, chemistry, equipment, and operational procedures.
  • Ensures staff are present, punctual, prepared, and fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Consistently contributes to a positive, welcoming, and memorable Golden Experience for every family.
  • Works effectively with instructors, front-desk staff, management, and other team members.
  • Demonstrates appropriate conduct, communication, appearance, and leadership at all times.
