About The Position

Monmouth University seeks a visionary, collaborative and innovative leader to serve as the next Dean of the Leon Hess School of Business. The Dean provides overall leadership for the school and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The position requires an earned doctorate in an academic business discipline, a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, effective teaching, scholarly activity, and service consistent with the rank of Professor with tenure. Demonstrated successful progressive administrative experience in higher education and experience in successful accreditation processes are essential. The Dean is responsible for fiscal management, advancing departmental and programmatic initiatives, research, curricular innovations, and recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse and qualified faculty. They also oversee accreditation standards, four departments (Accounting; Economics, Finance, and Real Estate; Management and Leadership; and Marketing and International Business), the Kislak Real Estate Institute, and the Center for Entrepreneurship. The Leon Hess Business School offers programs including business administration with various concentrations and a five-year BS/MBA option.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate in an academic business discipline.
  • Distinguished record of scholarly achievement including effective teaching in higher education (undergraduate and graduate), scholarly activity and service at a level consistent with the appointment to rank of Professor with tenure.
  • Demonstrated successful progressive administrative experience in higher education.
  • Experience in successful accreditation processes.
  • Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in one of the School’s disciplines or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated successful progressive administrative experience in higher education with experience leading undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • A distinguished record of academic accomplishments, including effective teaching, scholarly activity, and service at a level consistent with the appointment to rank of Professor with tenure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background, knowledge of, or experience in AACSB accreditation and requirements of AACSB Accredited institutions, along with either having a degree from or having held a full-time position in an AACSB accredited school.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting faculty and students.
  • Experience with undergraduate and graduate program development, assessment, and support faculty development of skills directly relating to accreditation standards.
  • Strong financial and budgetary experience.

Responsibilities

  • Articulating and advocating the mission and goals of the Leon Hess Business School.
  • Lead the School strategic planning activity, continuous improvement and fully understand the needs of Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation, and the role of Assessment of Learning (AoL) in the development of curricula and programs.
  • Providing strong budgetary and financial decision making, and develops the annual budget for the Leon Hess Business School.
  • Representing the School to internal and external constituents, cultivating strong positive relationships.
  • Works with appropriate University administrators to raise the outside financial resources necessary for the growth and development of the Leon Hess Business School.
  • Assisting in donor prospect cultivation and fundraising in support of the School and University priorities and initiatives.
  • Enhancing the reputation of the LHBS, known for its distinctive academic programs, competitive delivery modes and instruction, including off-site locations, its success in placing its graduates in business-related jobs and careers, and its impact on area businesses and business education.
  • Directs the activities of the Assistant Dean, the MBA Director, Monmouth University Center for Entrepreneurship and the Director of the Kislak Real Estate Institute in all specified areas.
  • Directs the department chairs to facilitate orderly administration of the departments and the planning and revision of curricula, as appropriate, and ensures the chairs’ involvement with local business/professional associations.
  • Directs the recruiting efforts of the departments and makes recommendation to the Provost regarding the addition of new faculty and staff in the Leon Hess Business School, and the continuance of faculty.
  • Ensures the Leon Hess Business School is represented on the appropriate University committees.
  • Lead the LHBS efforts in international/global initiatives and continuously assess student learning outcomes for the purpose of curriculum development.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with the administration of the University, promoting interaction between the LHBS and other Schools at the University, and make recommendations to the Provost.
  • Utilizing the Business Council for advice and support, assist University offices and give priority attention to building enrollment in business programs, fund raising for the School, and cultivating corporate partnerships that support School priorities.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
