About The Position

The Dean of Students at Dishman Hills High School serves as a collaborative leader who promotes a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture. Working closely with students, families, staff, and community partners, the Dean supports student engagement, attendance, behavior, and academic success through relationship-centered and restorative practices. In alignment with the school's mission, the Dean helps ensure all students have access to the support, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully graduate and be prepared for college, career, and life.

Requirements

  • Current Washington State Teaching Certificate.
  • K-12 Principal certification or active enrollment in a Certificated Administrative Program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful high school teaching experience.
  • Evidence of impactful and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to travel to multiple worksites.
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility.
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later).
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility.
  • Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • K-12 Principal certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting students who are credit deficient, disengaged, chronically absent, or at risk of not graduating is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to support students experiencing poverty, mental health challenges, housing instability, and other barriers to success.
  • Experience implementing competency-based learning models preferred.
  • Experience developing or supporting mentoring or advisory programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of Washington State ALE laws, policies, and procedures for online learning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with staff and school leaders to create an inclusive educational environment that supports student and adult learning.
  • Foster a culture that values diversity and promotes the contributions of all individuals to the community.
  • Assist and collaborate with the Principal in school management and assume leadership in the Principal's absence.
  • Administer student disciplinary procedures following district policies and state laws.
  • Receive referrals and confer with students, families, educators, community agencies, and law enforcement.
  • Respond to and resolve parent, student, and staff concerns and complaints using effective communication and conflict resolution among various stakeholders.
  • Provide instructional support, analyze data, and contribute to academic improvement initiatives with a deep understanding of positive behavioral intervention supports and restorative practices.
  • Monitor student attendance trends and provide leadership for attendance improvement efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and families, ensuring clear communication practices.
  • Supervise students and communicate clear expectations, ensuring appropriate behavior.
  • Provide instructional leadership support, ensuring alignment with district priorities.
  • Serve as a partner to engage in brainstorming sessions, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, exploration of new concepts, problem-solving approaches, and growth opportunities.
  • Participate in student support meetings (IEP, 504, CST, DRC).
  • Interpret and implement board policies and lead in goal-setting for student learning improvement.
  • Attend professional development sessions to enhance expertise, content knowledge, and skills.
  • Collaborate with the Principal to support classified evaluations.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
