About The Position

The Lansing School District is seeking a Dean of Students to support teachers in implementing schoolwide behavior incentive systems. This role involves working with individual students, teachers, and administrators to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment. Deans of Students are vital to the school community, contributing to the district's mission of providing an excellent education in a nurturing environment.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate (or eligible to receive one based on Bachelor's degree in education)
• Previous teaching or counseling experience
• Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
• Five or more years of successful teaching or counseling experience in an urban school setting

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage behavioral suspensions
• Implement programs to develop student character and discipline in line with District standards
• Advise parents on student behavior matters and effective discipline programs
• Create and oversee student intervention plans
• Coordinate and lead various student programs and activities, ensuring adherence to District policies
• Collect and analyze data related to student behavior, attendance, and academic outcomes
• Communicate with parents, teachers, school leaders, and other school stakeholders about student discipline related incidences
• Stay up-to-date with relevant policies and research regarding school accountability, student achievement, and student engagement strategies
• Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
