About The Position

Integration Charter Schools (ICS) is seeking a passionate and dedicated Dean of School Culture for the 2026-2027 school year. ICS provides innovative pathways to college for students with special needs, aiming to fill gaps in public education. The ICS network consists of four schools on Staten Island, New York, guided by the principles of teamwork, courage, community, and integrity. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, ICS emphasizes social-emotional learning to foster resilience, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills. Students can earn college credits through partnerships with higher education institutions. ICS is committed to creating innovative educational pathways for diverse learners, with a dedicated team working to cultivate an inclusive and enriching learning environment.

Requirements

  • A “whatever it takes” attitude, centered in the notion of “children first.”
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of organizational skills; detail-oriented with ability to follow through in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thorough understanding of best practices for middle and high school.
  • Understanding of school student-achievement data and New York Charter School Standards.
  • Ability to use tech platforms such as Kickboard, PowerSchool, Google Drive to track data and communicate effectively with the school community.
  • A deep belief that every child can succeed, and a willingness to uphold high expectations for students, staff, and oneself.
  • Ability to model social-emotional skills such as willingness to take feedback, hear new perspectives, and try new things in support of student growth.

Responsibilities

  • Create and uphold strong school culture in collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal, embodying ICS values (Courage, Community, Teamwork, Integrity) and upholding whole-school expectations for student behavior to ensure a safe, calm, joyful, and equitable learning environment.
  • Create a safe learning environment by supporting staff and students in building strong relationships and contributing to a thriving classroom culture through consistent procedures, routines, and whole-school systems and protocols.
  • Assist in the development of school events, traditions, and culture initiatives, including creating and maintaining a school-wide Culture Calendar that celebrates and rewards student growth and achievement.
  • Build strong relationships with staff, students, and parents/guardians, and partner with families to ensure consistent support for all students.
  • Oversee the consistent, equitable, and fair administration of PBIS behavior systems, including tracking student behavior data in PowerSchool/Kickboard.
  • Regularly monitor Tier 1 behavior data to ensure consistent responses to behavior and provide feedback to staff members.
  • Hold students accountable for behavior through school consequence systems such as lunch reflection, after-school reflection, and restorative tasks.
  • Implement and follow policies and procedures for student uniforms/dress code with fidelity.
  • Lead and monitor whole school systems, including arrival, dismissal, and lunch, providing feedback to staff and students as needed.
  • Respond in person and in a timely manner to Dean Referral texts and/or emails and text notifications.
  • Track and log all dean referral and suspension data in an electronic platform (e.g., PowerSchool and/or Kickboard).
  • Dialogue with students on how to support prosocial behaviors and make positive choices.
  • Communicate proactively with staff members to "close the loop" on interventions a student receives after a Dean Referral.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations between students and staff, and mediations between peer student groups.
  • Facilitate in-school suspensions (ISS) and out-of-school suspensions (OSS), including coordinating student work and restorative tasks/reflections.
  • Schedule and facilitate re-entry meetings with parents/guardians and students returning from suspensions.
  • Serve as a first-line responder in incidents requiring a Crisis Response Team.
  • Handle other administrative or managerial duties assigned by the Principal or SEL Leadership coach.
