About The Position

Legacy Charter School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Dean of Culture and Climate for the 2026–2027 school year. This leader will be responsible for fostering a positive, structured, and inclusive school culture that supports both academic achievement and social-emotional growth. The ideal candidate is deeply committed to helping scholars develop strong behavioral habits, make positive choices, and thrive in a safe and supportive learning environment grounded in restorative practices and social-emotional learning. Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school serving approximately 468 scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. Our team is dedicated to building a joyful, rigorous, and equitable learning environment where all scholars are empowered to succeed. The Dean of Culture and Climate plays a critical leadership role in shaping the student experience at Legacy. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining school-wide systems that promote positive behavior, restorative practices, and strong community relationships. This position is ideal for an educator and leader who excels in behavior management systems, student support, collaboration, and building a strong, values-driven school culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a school setting
  • Strong experience with behavior management, student support, or school culture leadership preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor implementation of school-wide behavior systems
  • Support scholars with behavioral challenges, including daily intervention support
  • Utilize restorative and trauma-informed practices to address student behavior
  • Collaborate with staff and families to problem-solve behavioral concerns
  • Maintain a visible presence across classrooms, hallways, and common areas
  • Deliver SEL lessons and interventions to address root causes of behavior
  • Support scholars in developing emotional regulation, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
  • Design and implement initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive school culture
  • Support school-wide culture goals aligned with Legacy’s core values (Legacy Anchors)
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback to teachers and staff on culture and climate practices
  • Serve as an active member of the Culture and SEL teams
  • Support Tier 2 and Tier 3 scholars with behavioral needs
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement targeted interventions and behavior plans
  • Contribute to the MTSS Behavior Team and help develop innovative support strategies
  • Support daily operations such as lunch supervision, attendance follow-up, and student uniform expectations
  • Manage systems such as student cell phone procedures
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with scholars, staff, and families
  • Maintain accurate documentation as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
