About The Position

Carteret Community College is seeking a full-time, 12-month Dean of Arts & Sciences and Academic Success. This position provides leadership and administrative, instructional, and management duties for the Arts & Sciences division, encompassing both Curriculum and Workforce Continuing Education programs. The Dean will oversee faculty and staff, promote a safe learning environment, build institutional transfer relationships, and manage curriculum development and assessment for continuous improvement. Responsibilities also include establishing advisory committees, ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies, participating in student grievance resolution, managing budgets, and supporting alternative funding opportunities. The Dean will also teach courses as needed and serve on college committees and attend campus events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a general education discipline.
  • Five years of experience providing direct supervision of college-level instruction in transfer programs.
  • Two years supervising the work of others.
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, industry partners and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
  • Display respect for social, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual pluralism.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, vision, planning, training opportunities, supervision and evaluation for all faculty and staff in the Arts & Sciences and Academic Support division.
  • Assist in the onboarding and credentialing of faculty and adjunct instructors.
  • Promote a safe environment conducive to learning and maintain high standards in all programs and classes, in accordance with academic policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and participate in building institutional transfer relationships, including transfer days and fairs, transfer student advising, and reviewing and disseminating data related to transfer trends and success.
  • Serve as liaison between faculty and staff and administration seeking to resolve faculty and staff conflicts.
  • Provide leadership for Arts & Sciences curriculum and workforce development/self-supporting programs, including courses in the learning management system, in course development, scheduling, and classroom management.
  • Assist faculty in establishing and executing student learning and program outcomes and assess related data for continuous improvement of student success.
  • Establish and maintain advisory committees for each transfer degree to ensure academic programs address service area needs, current and forecasting for future needs.
  • Oversee development and articulation for transfer CCP and degree advancement pathways.
  • Ensure that specialized transfer programs have community engagement and visibility.
  • Keep current on institutional accrediting agency compliance standards and coordinate implementation with Chairs and appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in student grievance resolution ensuring due process for student disciplinary and appeal issues.
  • Direct the development and administration of the Arts and Sciences budgets, including payroll and equipment needs.
  • Support alternative funding opportunities such as grants, donations, and partnerships.
  • Plan and deliver instruction according to the Faculty Workload Policy.
  • Serves on College committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Attend required campus events including graduation, professional development, & employee meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
