About The Position

Under the administrative direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College of Business Administration and Public Policy. The Dean assists faculty by mobilizing support, both internally and externally, for their teaching and research activities, and works to strengthen degree programs. The Dean has primary responsibility for fostering and sustaining an environment of academic excellence; overseeing strategic planning and curriculum development; providing leadership in fundraising; and for working effectively with the faculty, staff, and students as well as with the community, industry, and government. The Dean is expected to provide strong and creative leadership in managing the programs of the College; establishing goals and objectives consistent with the University's mission, goals and objectives; and in overseeing the recruitment, retention, and continued development of a high-quality faculty and staff within the context of shared governance.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Ten plus years of administrative experience along with a strong record of teaching, research, scholarly publication, and service sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured full professor in one of the departments of the College.
  • A minimum of five years of managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of the academic structure of a four-year public comprehensive university
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining frameworks
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups
  • Ability to promote student success and faculty excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service
  • Skill in consultative and collaborative decision-making within a shared governance environment
  • Skill in oral and written communication across diverse audiences, including faculty, staff, students, community partners, and university leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience navigating complex fiscal, personnel, and management challenges in a rapidly changing environment, including within a collective bargaining context
  • A documented record of successful external fundraising, grant generation, and resource development
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community organizations and a strong commitment to engagement with the business, government, and nonprofit sectors
  • Experience with AACSB and NASPAA accreditation processes, including self-study preparation, standards implementation, annual reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience with international programs and alternative modes of instruction
  • Familiarity with the disciplines represented in the College, including Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice Administration, Organizational Leadership Studies, and Accounting

Responsibilities

  • Provides equity-centered leadership that advances inclusive academic excellence, faculty and student success, belonging, and culturally responsive engagement with the communities served by California State University, Dominguez Hills.
  • Oversees the strategic management of College resources, ensuring the equitable allocation of funds from both internal and external sources in support of College programs.
  • Provides leadership in curriculum and program development, coordinates academic support services, and supervises and develops academic support personnel to ensure students are well served across all programs.
  • Cultivates a supportive and accountable college culture by mentoring department chairs, supporting faculty and staff development, and encouraging innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Champions student success as a core institutional value, with particular attention to the needs of first-generation, and historically underserved students who make up the majority of CSUDH's student body.
  • Aligns spending with the College's core mission, while ensuring the College operates within its budget and in accordance with University fiscal policies.
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson for the College on the campus, in the larger academic community, and within the greater Los Angeles professional community.
