About The Position

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for 2 Intervenor roles based in Thunder Bay. Reporting to the Manager, Deafblind Intervening Services, the Intervenor will act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with a combined loss of hearing and vision to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting and accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc. This is a permanent, full-time unionized position, working Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This posting is due to department expansion.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Social Work, Gerontology), and/or three to five years’ experience working with individuals who are deafblind.
  • Formal training in ASL would be an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills such as Two Hand Manual, Braille would be preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local (as well as occasional out of town) travel with clients.
  • Legally eligible for employment in Canada.
