About The Position

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Educational Consultant to support the educational needs of patients with hearing loss followed by the Center for Childhood Communication (CCC). CHOP is the nation's first hospital devoted exclusively to the care of children, established in 1855. Requirements

  • Master's Degree Deaf Education or related field
  • At least five (5) years of relevant school-based work experience
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills required.
  • Must be able to work effectively with minimal direct oversight and manage projects with varying deadlines.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple demands, work styles and needs.
  • Knowledge of educational law, regional education systems, community resources related to supporting children with hearing loss.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels patients and families regarding the educational needs and rights of children with hearing loss.
  • Reviews Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Guides administrators and educators regarding educational law, school placement and support services for children with hearing loss.
  • Stays current regarding available services and key community contacts for children with hearing loss and their families.
  • Uses effective and professional communication to disseminate information through multiple modalities.
  • Conducts didactic sessions for various professional and community organizations, as requested.
  • Maintains inventory of literature and informational resources to be used by patients, families, schools and CHOP staff.
  • Provides consultation to CCC and CHOP staff, as needed.
  • Demonstrates commitment to updating professional knowledge and skills.
  • Minimally, completes 10 hours of continuing education annually.
