About The Position

Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer and direct supervision of Director of Surgical Services, Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, RN, or LPN, the DDC Scope/Scrub Sterile Technician is responsible for processing, sterilization, and storage of supplies and equipment used throughout the hospital.  Assures that all needed instruments and/or trays are assembled and sterilized 100% of the time.  (Utilizes schedules to determine need.)  Maintains and updates instrument tray contents file.  Responsible to restock supplies and return equipment to proper storage area as deemed necessary.   Assures that adequate supplies are maintained in the unit.  The technician performs scrub duties/cross training if assigned by manager, performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in maintenance of all supplies rotating supplies and checking for expiration dates of products. The technician provides assistance in elective, urgent and emergent and scheduled cases, assist in preparation, transportation and supervision of patients and maintains education in surgical and related aspects .  Must demonstrate knowledge of location, care and operation of equipment.  At all times, workloads will be determined by adjustment of surgery schedules and current staffing levels.  As determined by the nurse manager, the technician will be assigned up to 40 hours per week  according to the needs of the unit and staff . Shifts may be longer than 8 hours, and may be required to participate in call rotation for 24 hours coverage as assigned and deemed necessary by the manager.   The technician is expected to function according to approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Will be responsible to assist with orientation of other newly hired technicians. Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, administration, patients, and visitors. The technician is expected to function according to approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization. Attendance to yearly Mandatory and assigned Healthstream education requirements is nonnegotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions. The employee is responsible for maintaining all certifications and licensure requirements on time.
