About The Position

As part of the Envelop Group collective of companies, Controlled Environmental Systems (CES) delivers advanced engineering and manufacturing solutions for critical building environments, providing high-quality products and services across sectors such as research, healthcare, and manufacturing; and specializing in critical airflow, air filtration, and HVAC systems. The Controls Engineer will play a critical role in the design, implementation, programming, and optimization of advanced DDC control systems in critical environments. Our Engineers are engaged in the full lifecycle of a project from pre-sales to closeout.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. Equivalent training and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, programming, commissioning, and optimizing DDC control systems in complex or critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, and related equipment.
  • Proficiency in advanced controls programming platforms and frameworks such as Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent BAS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of building automation networking and protocols, including BACnet (IP and MS/TP), Modbus, TCP/IP, and related communication standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, sales engineers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop , email , smartphone , and tablet .
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for employer-based sponsorship currently or in the future.
  • Pre-hire requirements include a drug test and a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, configure, and integrate DDC control systems, including controllers, supervisory devices, networks, and peripheral equipment, using established standards and advanced programming tools.
  • Support the full project lifecycle from pre-sales through closeout, including cost estimating, technical sales support, system demonstrations, proposal development, and solution customization.
  • Review project requirements, specifications, and functional definitions to develop efficient, compliant control system designs.
  • Produce control system documentation and deliverables, including schematics, wiring diagrams, sequences of operations, bills of material, network layouts, equipment schedules, submittals, as-built drawings, and O&M manuals.
  • Develop, test, and implement software programs and controller sequences to meet project requirements.
  • Execute system startup, integration, commissioning, performance testing, and functional verification to ensure proper operation and adherence to project specifications.
  • Collaborate with sales engineers, project teams, and customers to assess system needs, critical HVAC equipment requirements, and operational objectives .
  • Troubleshoot control system issues, support existing customer applications, and provide technical assistanc e as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of system designs, programming logic, network configurations, field changes, and project closeout activities.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to DDC controls, building automation systems, and emerging IoT solutions, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
