About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Training, DD Services, the DD Training Specialist is responsible for designing, scheduling, and delivering high-quality, compliant training to Heartshare's DD Division employees. This includes Pre-Service Orientation, SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention), CPR/First Aid, Autism Overview, and a range of onsite and online courses such as Pre-Service Contingency and Infection Control. The DD Training Specialist ensures that all training is delivered in accordance with OPWDD, state, and federal regulations, and that employee training records are accurate, current, and audit-ready at all times.

Requirements

Associate's Degree in Human Services, Education, Psychology, or a related field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities required.
Prior experience delivering training or facilitating groups strongly preferred.
Certified or eligible to become certified as a SCIP Instructor (or equivalent crisis-prevention/intervention instructor certification).
Certified or eligible to become certified as a CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
Valid NYS driver's license may be required depending on site travel needs.
Working knowledge of OPWDD regulations, Medicaid Service Coordination, and Office for People With Developmental Disabilities training standards.
Strong public speaking, facilitation, and classroom management skills, with the ability to engage adult learners with varied learning styles.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training schedules, sites, and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency with MS Office 365 Suite and comfort learning and administering Learning Management Systems (Paycom LMS).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to the mission of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

Deliver New Employee Pre-Service Orientation and Pre-Service Contingency training to all incoming DD Division staff prior to or upon hire, in accordance with OPWDD requirements.
Deliver SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) certification and recertification training to employees, including physical intervention techniques, and maintain SCIP trainer certification.
Deliver American Heart Association / American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certification and recertification training, and maintain current CPR Instructor certification.
Deliver Autism Overview training and other clinical/behavioral topic trainings as assigned.
Facilitate onsite and virtual training sessions on regulatory and best-practice topics, including Infection Control, Incident Reporting, Person-Centered Planning, HIPAA/Confidentiality, Abuse and Neglect Prevention, and Fire/Life Safety.
Assign, monitor, and track completion of online/e-learning courses using Paycom's Learning Management System (LMS), including Pre-Service Contingency and Infection Control modules.
Prepare, update, and organize training materials, curricula, handouts, sign-in sheets, and presentation content using the MS Office 365 Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Set up and break down training rooms and equipment (AV equipment, CPR manikins, training aids) at various agency sites.
Evaluate training effectiveness through participant feedback, testing, and observation, and recommend improvements to curricula and delivery methods.
Support scheduling of training sessions across multiple residential and program sites to minimize disruption to client services.
Serve as a resource to program staff and supervisors regarding training requirements, compliance deadlines, and certification status.
Support the Director of Training with special projects, audits, and preparation for OPWDD and other regulatory reviews.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
